Biden Arrives in Bali to Attend the G20 Summit

Marves -Nusa Dua, November 13, 2022 –President of the United States of America Joe Biden arrived in Bali on Sunday (13/11/2022) evening at around 21.45 local time at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, to attend the G20 Summit. Biden's arrival was welcomed by Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.
"I have the honor and duty from the state to welcome President Joe Biden who landed in Bali tonight at around 21.45 local time by Air Force One aircraft," said Sandiaga, Sunday (13/11/2022) in Denpasar Bali.
On this occasion, Sandiaga welcomed and thanked Biden for making his time to attend the G20 Summit. "On behalf of the government, the nation, and the people of Indonesia, we express our desire for more visits and cooperation in the tourism and creative economy sector," he said.
Sandiaga further said that tourist visits from the United States had recently increased. He also expressed his hope to Biden that Indonesia's creative economy products would increase in demand, especially fashion, culinary, and handicraft products.
Sandiaga continued to say that while walking and greeted by a Balinese dance, Biden expressed his great admiration for the dance. "He was so amazed and said 'amazing, splendid, wonderful’, he also thanked the dancers,” Sandiaga said.
State Guests Start Arriving
Apart from Biden, a number of other state guests including the heads of world institutions have also arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport since 18.25 local time.
The G20 Communications and Media Team observed that the arriving state guests and heads of world institutions include Chairman of the World Economic Forum Prof. Klaus Martin Schwab, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, Director General of the International Labor Organization Gilbert F. Houngbo, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Meanwhile, President of The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masatsugu Asakawa arrived here on Saturday (12/11/2022) at 23:45.
Director General of Public Information and Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Usman Kansong said the wave of delegation arrivals will continue until Monday (14/11/2022).
"We are ready to welcome. Security and control measures are in place. Indonesia strives to be a good host for all state guests attending the G20 Summit," said Usman.
For the record, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have continuously made tight security arrangements at venues of the G20 Summit series of events and in welcoming state guests.
As of Friday (11/11/2022), the Indonesian Government has received confirmation of in person attendance for 17 G20 leaders at the Summit. The presence of leaders, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo, was 37 out of a total of 41 invitees. Meanwhile, the Fijian government confirmed that it would send a special envoy, because the state is undergoing general elections.
Brazil and Mexico have also informed that their Presidents will not be able to attend. Mexico will be represented by the Mexican Foreign Minister, while Brazil is still communicating about its form of participation.
Previously, on November 8, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a diplomatic note from the Russian Embassy in Jakarta stating that President Putin could not be present in Bali in person. Representing Putin, Foreign Minister S. Lavrov will attend the summit in person.
The presence of 17 G20 leaders, including Indonesia, plus 9 of the 10 invited countries and leaders of 10 International Organizations makes up very high level of attendance in the midst of the current very difficult situation.
