G20 Country Leaders Set to Start the G20 Summit

MarvesNusa Dua, November 14, 2022 – Heads of state and government leaders arrived in Bali one day prior to the G20 Summit. Leaders of the world’s major countries arrived yesterday including Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

“Everything is going smoothly and right on schedule,” said Usman Kansong, Director General of Public Information and Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, to the G20 Communications and Media Team, Monday (14/11/2022).

“President Xi Jinping landed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport at around 3:45 p.m. local time and was followed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived at 6:46 p.m.

Earlier, G20 leaders who had landed included French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Meanwhile, several heads of state who were invited to the G20 Summit also arrived on the same day. They were Senegalese President Macky Sall, Surinamese President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez.

Meanwhile, the heads of world institutions, such as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, European Union President Charles Michel, WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived at almost the same time.

Leaders of other G20 member countries whose presence is still being awaited are German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi, and Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The arrival of the three leaders will complement 17 out of the 20 heads of state of the G20 members who have confirmed their attendance at the G20 Summit.

“It is normal because at every summit there will always be countries unable to attend due to different reasons,” said Usman

One day prior, several leaders who already arrived included the US President Joe Biden, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa, WEF Chair Klaus Martin Schwab, IsDB President Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
