MarvesNusa Dua, November 14, 2022 — President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan agreed to negotiate a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

"We must instruct the negotiators to immediately find an acceptable solution for both parties to all occurring barriers so that the agreement can be finalized soon," President Joko Widodo said after holding a bilateral meeting with President Erdogan at the Apurva Kempinski Bali on Monday (14/11/2022).

The CEPA is an economic cooperation scheme which covers broader issues than just trade issues. In addition to discussing the economy, the two countries also exchanged ideas to find a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is to minimize negative impacts on the global economy, especially concerning food and energy security.

President Jokowi also appreciated the presence of Turkish President at the G20 Summit. The meeting of the heads of state is expected to result in concrete cooperation. Both countries recorded progress in bilateral relations, with the signing of several strategic Government-to- Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) agreements. These agreements cover the fields of defense, forestry, environment, research-technology, and innovation.

The B2B agreements include cooperation in manufacturing electric buses in Indonesia between Karsan and Credo Group and the construction of Trans Sumatra toll road. Also present in the bilateral meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, and Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan.
