Pendet Dance Performance to Welcome Heads of Delegation of the G20 Summit

PRESS RELEASE NO.32/SP/TKMG20/11/2022
G20 COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA TEAM

Marves - Jakarta, November 7, 2022 – Seven days prior to the commencement of the G20 Summit, the Government has prepared details on protocol arrangement to support the event, including the arrangement of Pendet traditional dance performance to welcome the arrival of heads of state and heads of government. A number of heads of delegation are planned to arrive at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport starting on November 13, 2022.

"We have to be able to manage the landing schedule for 40 guests and the parking lot for their planes. We don't use Bali’s parking lot only, but all areas in Indonesia," said Secretary of Ministry of State Secretariat, Setya Utama during a #G20Updates press conference, Monday (11/7).

The delegates will be greeted by a performance of Pendet dance, a traditional Balinese dance, upon arrival at the airport, before being transferred to their hotels. "The heads of the delegation will arrive on November 13 and November 14. Electric vehicles will take them to their respective hotels and let them get ready to start the event," said Setya.

The decision to use electric vehicles for the convoy of the heads of delegation, Setya said, demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to use new and renewable energy. In total, Indonesia provides 836 electric cars for VVIPs and delegates, in collaboration with a number of automotive companies.

Setya explained that despite electric cars for the heads of delegation, the Indonesian Government will allow countries to bring their own bulletproof operational vehicles in accordance to their respective security standards.

"Indonesia has also received the same treatment in other meetings abroad," said Setya.

Indonesia provides armored vehicles for seven heads of state/government who attend the G20 meeting. So far, five countries have stated that they will bring their own armored vehicles to Bali.

"We can't fulfill all requests (for armored vehicles) because we also reserve for our president and vice president. So first come, first served," he said.

Setya went on to say that the first day’s event on November 15, 2022, will be held at the main venue of the G20 event at The Apurva Kempinski Bali, with a total of 15 working sessions scheduled to last from morning to noon. The themes include food and energy security and global health architecture. In the evening, a welcoming dinner will be held at Garuda Wisnu Kencana.

Meanwhile, the second day activity will start with a side event of planting mangroves at the Tahura mangrove conservation in the morning. After the event, the third working session will be held after lunch with the theme digital transformation. In the afternoon, the event will be concluded with the handover of the G20 presidency from Indonesia to India.

"So that's what has been planned starting from arrival to departure. Hopefully it will run safely and smoothly, with results as expected by the world’s society,” Satya remarked.
