Marves -Nusa Dua, November 11, 2022– Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) actors in Bali have prepared a digital payment system. It is aimed at following the latest development in the digital era and easing transactions for the G20 Summit guests.

The Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS) is a digital payment system created by the Indonesian Central Bank (BI). BI has integrated various QRs from several payment system service providers. The consumers do not need to bring cash and the businesses do not need to prepare any change.

“Since the pandemic, we started to use QRIS. It reduces cash use and the customers are happy because they can pay in any method,” said Raden Adrian Noor, the owner of 25PM Coffee Nusa Dua, to the G20 Communications and Media Team. Around 50 percent of his café visitors use QRIS as a payment method, generating a profit of about Rp5 million per day.

BI actively encourages businesses to apply for digital payment. This trend will also be brought to G20 discussions through the forums for digital financial inclusion to expand access for youths, women, and MSMEs.

In Bali alone, the total number of users has reached 474,000, added by new users reaching 269,417 as of September 2022. No wonder Bali is ranked the third biggest user in Indonesia, after DKI Jakarta and Yogyakarta.

In terms of merchant users, micro-businesses are at 57 percent, small businesses are at 29 percent, and the rest are middle and big enterprises. Hence, the total number of QRIS merchant users reaches 532,206.

“Using QRIS is simpler. The payment is quicker and we do not need to provide change,” said Familia Jeria, one of Ayam Kremes Bumbu Kuning Restaurant employees, in the Jimbaran area, Bali. The total transaction by using QRIS can reach around Rp1 million per day, she added.

Head of BI’s Bali representative office Trisno Nugroho estimates the number of merchants will keep increasing to around 577,000, while the number of users is predicted to reach 546,000 by the end of 2022. BI along with the regional governments, colleges, and payment system service companies will keep on giving education to all society levels including village residents and street vendors.

Based on the monthly volume, the transaction number using QRIS reached around 1.4 million or grew to 226 percent compared to the same period in August 2021. While nominally, the transactions reached Rp141 billion per month or grew to 334 percent compared to the previous year.
