BMKG Sets Up the Latest Weather Forecast App at the G20 Summit

Marves -  Denpasar, November 10, 2022 – The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) through the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Main Station Area III Denpasar provides access to the latest weather forecast and earthquake information during the G20 Summit. 

Delegates can quickly get the latest information through two links which have been prepared, namely https://publik.bmkg.go.id/g20/ and https://inatews.bmkg.go.id/wrs/index.html.

BMKG has also installed equipment connected to the information screen provided at the Apurva Kempinski Hotel and BNDCC. These two screens display information on meteorology, climatology, and geophysics. This application can be used 24/7 by guests or delegates as needed.

Coordinator on Data and Information of BMKG Main Station Area III Denpasar I Nyoman Gede Wiryajaya, on Thursday (10/11/2022), said that the displayed information shall be updated on a real-time basis. Officers will update all information as quickly as possible, particularly on the latest extreme weather.

“Guests and delegates can access information about disaster threat and mitigation. If there is any emergency situation, such as an earthquake, we will disseminate the information to all lines that are connected to the ITDC command center and Puja Mandala disaster operation center [Pusladops BPBD Bali],” he said.

All guests and delegates can easily access https://publik.bmkg.go.id/g20/ via smartphones. It provides a comprehensive G20 weather forecast, including the weather forecast, air temperature, and wind speed every hour as well as weather monitoring graphics.

Meanwhile, https://inatews.bmkg.go.id/wrs/index.html provides specific information on earthquake. It contains the latest official information in the event of earthquake in Indonesia.

He added that BMKG has also placed one Early Warning System (EWS) equipment at about 190 meters from the beach around Apurva Kempinski Hotel for real-time monitoring.

BMKG prepares and mobilizes officers to stand by in monitoring situations from the conference venues to Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Executive Head of the Regional Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BPBD) Bali Made Rentin explained that in the mitigation of extreme weather, particularly if heavy rainfall occurs, they will keep on monitoring rising flood spots and give special attention to the conference areas. He added that some flood spots around the conference venues will get more attention.

He further said that he had prepared several water pumps if the rain causes floods. The pumps are stationed mainly at the Puja Mandala command post and dispatched immediately to drain the floods during the conference to smooth the delegates' mobilization.

Head of BNPB Operation Control Center (Pusdalops) Bambang Surya Putra underlined that the disaster mitigation is managed under the coordination of Bali BPBD, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian Police (Polri), and related elements particularly of the VVIP guests. Furthermore, they will locate fire brigades to monitor cattle crossing the roads to provide convenience for the delegates during their stay in Bali.
