President Joko Widodo Welcomes G20 Summit Delegates

MarvesNusa Dua, November 14, 2022 – The G20 Summit has officially begun on Tuesday morning, November 15, 2022 at the Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali. President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, extended his welcome to each delegate before entering the Summit conference room at 09.00 WITA (Central Indonesian Time).

Once their vehicle stopped in front of the hotel lobby, the delegates were ushered into the room through a red-carpeted hallway towards the stage where President Joko Widodo officially welcomed them. Every delegate shook hands and took pictures with President Joko Widodo at the welcoming area with a backdrop of three flames.

The President then invited and accompanied his guests into the Summit conference room.

The first delegates he welcomed were leaders of international institutions or organizations, non-G20 heads of state/heads of government. He welcomed the delegates of G20 members next.

Non-G20 delegates that came were Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masatsugu Asakawa, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and President of the European Council Charles Michel. There was also a delegate from Fiji, represented by Special Envoy of the Fiji Prime Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

Next, President Joko Widodo welcomed President of the European Union Ursula von der Leyen, President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Klaus Martin Schwab, and Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann.

The following guests were Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon.

Following them, there were President of South Korea Yoon Suk-yeol, President of Argentina Alberto Fernández, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and President of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Moments later, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, President of France Emmanuel Macron, and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping arrived at the location.

After nearly an hour of standing on stage welcoming and shaking hands with the guests of the G20 Summit, President Joko Widodo extended his welcome to President of the United States of America Joe Biden, who was also the last guest to enter the room.
